It’s hard to find a great new comedy series on TV these days – most of the newly launched 2014 comedy shows (Selfie, Manhattan Love Story, The Millers, Bad Judge, etc) have been cancelled, and many of our beloved long-running TV shows are also coming to a close in 2015, such as Parks and Recreation. That’s why we’re happy to hear there’s a comedy shows getting rave reviews for its talented cast, witty humor, raw emotion, and most importantly authenticity (an aspect seriously lacking in TV as of late) called Transparent.

Transparent follows a wealthy LA man (played by Jeffery Tambor) and his three grown children as they struggle to make sense of their lives and deal with a big life-changing announcement. The father has spent his whole life being miserable and is now trying out a new lifestyle which isn’t making him as happy as he thought it would. His oldest daughter has a perfect life which might shatter to pieces when her past comes to haunt her. His youngest daughter can’t seem to find comfort in her own skin, uncomfortable with her appearance, and failing to find a job even though she is smart. Meanwhile his son is rich, handsome, and popular with women, yet can’t seem to be happy as nights of meaningless sex leave him yearning for something more.

All these individuals have their fault and face struggles. This show manages to navigate through some of life’s most difficult topics with race and wit while also making us laugh. This show is a great choice for anyone who wants to laugh, cry, and connect with the characters they watch.
