It’s been almost two decades since Independence Day was released in 1996, many thought a sequel might never come – but news has just broken from Deadline that it is finally happening.

Independence Day 2 is rumored to be bringing back some of the first film’s cast, it is unclear who at this moment, but the original film’s lead, Will Smith, will not be returning in the sequel. As for the speculations people were making about a third Independence Day film – nothing about that was confirmed. Whether or not there will be a third film in the series will largely depend on how the second movie does.
