We all know Ryan Gosling is an amazing actor from his performances in movies like The Notebook, Drive, and The Place Beyond the Pines, but could you ever imagine that he might be a great director too? Judging by the trailer to his directorial debut, The Lost River, he just might be as fantastic behind the camera as he is in front of it. You can check out the trailer below!

The film is a story of love, family, the fight for survival, and id described as “a dark fairytale”. The Lost River will star Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendez, Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith, Barbara Steele, Ben Mendelsohn, and Reda Kateb.

The movie will be released on April 10th in theatres in New York and Los Angeles, and also via digital channels nationally, the same day. Ryan explains the reasoning behind the decision in a public statement:

“It’s a small specialty film, so for me, this day-and-date theatrical and digital release plan provides the best of both worlds. It allows those who are interested in seeing my film in a theatre to do so without excluding the majority of people who don’t have access to a specialty cinema. VOD is giving a new life to independent cinema and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to showcase the wonderful work of my cast and crew on such a broad platform.”

President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Sue Kroll, also had a statement regarding the movie and Ryan’s directorial abilities:

“Ryan is one of the most exciting actors of his generation. His debut film is a singular vision of stranded people finding connection in a broken world. We believe in this film and in Ryan as a director, and are delighted to be working with him in this new role.
